Have you ever watched or played football?
Once upon a fleeting time, football was a popular peasant game in Europe. The
footballs were made by inflating pig’s bladders! In 1855, U. S. inventor, Charles
Goodyear, began to make footballs out of rubber. Today they are made from
either rubber or cow’s hide.

American football is a team sport played on a rectangular field. It involves kicking,
carrying or hand-passing a ball to score points called goals. There are 11 players
on each team and they move the ball to the opposing team’s end of the field.
When players put the ball between two goal posts, points are scored.

The National Football League (NFL) is a professional American football league of
32 teams, half from the National Football Conference (NFC) and the other half
from the American Football Conference (AFC). NFL games are played early
September to late December, with each team playing 16 games. At the end of the
season, six teams from each conference go to a tournament called the Playoffs.

The final game is the Super Bowl, and is between the champions of the NFC and
AFC. It is one of the most watched sporting events in the world.

Colorado’s football team is called The Denver Broncos. They were founded on
August 14, 1959 by Bob Howsam.

The quarterback is the leader of the football team and is responsible for calling
the plays. John Elway took the Broncos to six Super Bowls and is considered one
of the greatest quarterbacks of all time.

Coach, Red Miller and quarterback, Craig Morton, led the Broncos to their
first Super Bowl appearance in 1978. Jon Keyworth was a running back on that
team. He wrote the song “Make Those Miracles Happen” which became the
fastest-selling single record in Denver at the time.

“I’ve been a winner a long, long time. Nobody knew it but me. When I was down
on the bottom, up was hard to see. But there is one thing about a winner. They
keep coming back again. Til’ some kind of miracle happens and winners finally
win.

(Chorus) You gotta make those miracles happen, make those miracles happen.
Nobody, nobody does it alone. But if your down and you want to be up, you want
to drink from the winner’s cup, you gotta make those miracles happen on your
own.

You’ve been waiting a long, long time. And you know you’re a winner too. Hear
me when I tell you, there’s just one thing you can do. Show the world you’re a
winner and hit it again and again. You’ll get a miracle going because winners
always win.

(Chorus) You gotta make those miracles happen, make those miracles happen.
Nobody, nobody does it alone. But if your down and you want to be up, you want
to drink from the winner’s cup, you gotta make those miracles happen on your
own.

Make those miracles happen, make those miracles happen. Nobody, nobody does
it alone. But if your down and you want to be up, you want to drink from the
winner’s cup, you gotta make those miracles happen on your own.”

When each teammate does his best, the whole team wins! Will you do your best
today?
